Day 6 - January 24. The Rogerian Model
Objective:
Today, I introduced the Rogerian Model. Students had an activity in class, on different topics. Working in pairs, they have to argue on the different topics and try to find a way to reconcile the diverging views with the Rogerian model.
Application/Exercise:
One topic was: "Is it better to have love in a relationship or money?" Students often start arguing very strongly on the subject. And it is often very hard for them to reconcile the views. Therefore, it allows me to talk about the premise/warrant that is needed before arguing: "Are we all clear on the meaning of love? what do you mean by love? " I ask students to define love before even discussing with their classmate about it. Once the issue of love is defined, then, they can discuss and reconcile their views.
Since students had a research day coming up the following week, I also gave them a detailed presentation of the databases that they could use to do their research.
